Grade 5
The Grade 5 curriculum covers:
- Adding/subtracting fractions and decimals
- Algebra and one-step equations
- Measurement - US customary and metric
- Measurement of angles
- Geometry - perimeter, triangles, symmetry
- Probability - mean, medium and mode
Grade 6
The Grade 6 curriculum includes:
- Multiplying/dividing decimals
- Order of operations PEMDAS
- Adding/subtracting integers
- Ratios and unit rate
- Graphing of line plots, bar graphs, circle graphs stem-and-leaf plots
- Geometry - polygons, triangles, circumference and area of circles
- Divisibility rules, GCF, LCM, fractions in simplest form
- Algebraic expressions
Grade 7
The Grade 7 curriculum addresses:
- Algebraic equations and inequalities
- Multiplication/division of integers
- Representing fractions in various ways
- Prime factorization
- Ratio, proportion and percent
- Properties of polygons, circles and angles
- Surface area of solids, volume and appropriate formulas
- Rational/irrational numbers
- Measures of Central Tendency
The Advanced Math program is available to students in Grades 6-8 who have demonstrated an exceptional aptitude for mathematics. Eighth grade students in the Advanced Mathematics program will take the New York State Regents in June.
