OLS

Grade 5
The Grade 5 curriculum will place an emphasis on lab skills, writing and organization. Students will begin the year with a lab-intensive unit on ecosystems and classifications. In addition, students will be studying astronomy, including our earth, moon, sun and some of the outer planets. They will study a unit to chemistry where students will be introduced to the properties of atoms and chemical bonding.

Grade 6
The Grade 6 curriculum is based on the NYS requirements for earth science.
The class will be covering topics including mapping, rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes, weathering and earth waters. This class places an emphasis on lab skills and writing.
 
Grade 7
The Grade 7 curriculum is based on the NYS Standard for Life Science and is an intense hands-on class that involves laboratory work, written expression, and individual project work. Topics covered include taxonomy, organic chemistry, structure and function of cells, DNA and heredity, and human physiology.
