Grades K-4 In these grades, the students will address the following topics:

Grades 5-6 In these grades, the students continue their study of Spanish with the following topics:

• Spanish prayers – Sign of Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father |

• Alphabet, numbers 1-100 |
| |
• Greetings, expressions of courtesy, commands |
| |
• Geography and culture, holidays and holy days |
| |
• Classroom objects |
| |
• Houses and furnishings |
| |
• Family, parts of the body, clothing and food |
| |
• Days of the week, months, calendar, weather, seasons, telling time |
| |
• Pronouns, Introduction of AR verbs, present tense |
| |
• Things I like to do, using gustar |
Grades 7
In grades 7-8, the students will build on the vocabulary and skills introduced in the lower grades, and will also study the following topics:

• Nouns with articles, definite and indefinite articles |
| |
• Present tense verbs |
| |
• Reflexive verbs, use and conjugation |
| |
• Question words |
| |
• Conjugation of AR/ER/IR verbs |
| |
• Irregular verbs, plural nouns, adjective/noun agreement |
| |
• Difference between SER and ESTAR |
| |
• Writing sentences and paragraphs in Spanish |
| |
• Likes/dislikes using gustar and encantar, wants and needs |
| |
• Telephone conversations |
| |
• Accepting/turning down invitations |
| |
• Classes, sequence of events |
| |
• Food, meal planning, ordering/paying in a restaurant, Spanish menu |
| |
• Discussion of how food tastes |
| |
• Planning a fiesta |
At the end of grade 8, our students take the Spanish Competency Exam. Based on their performance on this test, most of our students go into Spanish II as freshmen. |
